Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, share and protect personal information through Keep The Beat Going — and how we look after students' privacy.

Last updated: 15 October 2026

The short version

  • Keep The Beat Going is an Aero Healthcare brand, owned and operated by Aero Healthcare.
  • Students never give us their real name, email, age or birthday. They join with their school's code and a nickname built from word reels, like BeatHero42.
  • The public leaderboard shows school names, never student names.
  • We collect teachers', AED owners' and event entrants' contact details only to run the program, the competitions and the AED draw, and to contact AED owners about their AED if we need to — for example a recall.
  • No advertising, no tracking or analytics tools, no cookies — and we never sell personal information. Our videos only load from YouTube or Wistia if you press play.
  • You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time: keepthebeat@aerohealthcare.com.

1. About this policy

Keep The Beat Going — the website at keepthebeatgoing.com, the Keep The Beat Going game and the campaign that goes with it — is an Aero Healthcare brand. It is owned and operated by Aero Healthcare AU Pty Ltd (ABN 76 614 308 146) (Aero Healthcare, we, us, our).

This policy explains what personal information we collect through Keep The Beat Going, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. This policy applies to Keep The Beat Going alongside the Aero Healthcare Privacy Policy.

2. Students and children's privacy

Keep The Beat Going is made for students at Australian schools, so we built it to collect as little as possible from children:

  • Students never give us their real name, email address, age, date of birth, year level or class. They join with their school's code and a nickname built from curated word reels — typing a free-text name isn't possible.
  • Hero names and the names of player-made levels are built from word reels too.
  • Students play under the supervision of their school. The teacher who registers a school confirms that the school has approved taking part, that students will play under staff supervision, and that the school will collect any parent or guardian permission its policies require.
  • We never email students, never show advertising and never use analytics or tracking tools.

Some information about a student's play can still be personal information — for example a nickname together with the student's school, and their scores and gameplay records. This policy explains exactly how we handle it.

Parents and guardians can ask us about, or ask us to delete, anything we hold about their child — see section 12.

3. What we collect

3.1 Teachers and school staff

  • When you register a school: your name, your email address, your school's name (chosen from the national list of Australian schools published by ACARA, or typed in if your school isn't listed) and, if you type it in, the school's address. We also record that you confirmed the school has approved taking part, that students will play under staff supervision and that the school will collect parent or guardian permission.
  • When a colleague asks for your school's code: the colleague's name and school email address, and which school they're asking about. We send these to the teacher who registered the school.

3.2 Students and other players

  • The school code and the reel-built nickname chosen when joining.
  • A player code and a sign-in token that we generate, so a player can keep playing as themselves on another device or after a school computer is reset.
  • The player's hero, if they make one: its look, its reel-built name and the power they chose.
  • Gameplay records for each saved run: score, time, stages reached, AEDs, hearts and monsters collected, the run mode, and a record of the in-game actions and frame timings during the run (for example "jump" or "move right", and when). We use this to replay the run on our server and check the score is genuine. It is not a recording of the screen, of anything typed, or of anything outside the game.
  • Player-made levels, the scores players set on them, and the star and difficulty ratings players give to levels.

Anyone can play Practice mode without joining. We don't save practice runs on our servers.

3.3 AED owners (AED registration and the AED nomination draw)

  • The serial number of each Aero AED you register and, if you tell us, where each AED is kept.
  • Your name, email address and (if you give it) phone number.
  • The school or community organisation you nominate — for an organisation, its name and street address.
  • The name, email address and (if you give it) phone number of a contact person at the school or organisation you nominate.
  • Any note you add, and the IP address your registration came from (used to prevent abuse).

If you give us details of a contact person at a school or organisation, please make sure they're happy for you to share them. We don't contact them unless their school or organisation's nomination is drawn.

3.4 Event competitions

Aero Healthcare sometimes runs a Keep The Beat Going mini competition at an event (for example at a workplace health and safety show). If you enter one, we collect your first name, last name, company and email address, the hero you chose, and your round (its score, time and the action and timing record used to check it). These competitions are for adults and are separate from the school competition. See the Event Competition Terms.

3.5 Everyone who visits the website

  • Server logs. Like most websites, our web servers automatically log each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page or address requested (which can include search words or codes typed into the website), your browser and device type, and the page you came from.
  • Information kept in your own browser — see section 9.

4. How we collect it

  • Directly from you, through the website's forms and while you play.
  • From teachers, about their school.
  • From AED owners, about the contact person at a school or organisation they nominate.
  • Automatically, from your browser and our servers.
  • From ACARA's public Australian Schools List, for school names and locations.

5. Why we use it

  • To run Keep The Beat Going: registering schools, issuing school and player codes, letting students play, saving and showing scores and leaderboards, and running the monthly school competition — including checking runs for cheating before any prize is awarded.
  • To contact the teacher who registered a school — for example if the school wins, or to pass on a colleague's request for the school's code.
  • To register AEDs and run the AED nomination draw: recording which Aero AEDs are registered and where they're kept, checking that each AED is one supplied by Aero Healthcare and that the nominee is eligible, running the draw, and contacting you and the nominee if a nomination is drawn. We also keep a record of each registered AED and its owner's contact details, so we can contact you about your AED if we need to — for example a product safety notice or a recall.
  • To run event competitions: checking that each person plays once, showing the event leaderboard, checking rounds for cheating, and contacting the winner.
  • To keep the website safe and working: preventing abuse and fraud, limiting how often things can be done, fixing problems and improving the game.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We don't use personal information collected through Keep The Beat Going for direct marketing. We never send marketing to students.

6. What other people can see

WhereWho can see itWhat it shows
Public leaderboard Anyone School names, each school's best run (score, time, AEDs, outcome) and the hero or built-in character used for it, including a hero's reel-built name and look. No student nicknames. Schools still waiting for approval aren't shown.
List of registered schools Anyone The names of approved schools taking part.
Class leaderboard Anyone with the school's code — the school's students and staff, and anyone they share the code with Every player's nickname at that school, their scores and runs, and who has joined but not played yet.
Player-made levels Anyone The level's reel-built name and design, the nickname and school of the player who made it, the best score on it with that player's nickname, and average ratings.
A player-made level's leaderboard Anyone with the level's code Nicknames and scores of the players who've played it.
AED registrations and nominations Only Aero Healthcare staff Never public. The public serial check only says whether a serial number has already been registered, and when — never by whom.

Event competitions: the leaderboard on the screen at the event shows each entrant's first name and company with their score. Surnames and email addresses are never shown.

Badges, player cards and posters are created in your own browser. They show what's printed on them (for example a nickname, school and scores) and are only shared if you share them.

Authorised Aero Healthcare staff who run the program can see all of the information described in section 3.

7. Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent personal information. We share it only:

  • with the service providers who host and run the website for us: Amazon Web Services (hosting, database and sending email);
  • with the teacher who registered a school, when someone asks for that school's code (we share the requester's name and email address);
  • with a nominated school or organisation and its contact person, if their nomination is drawn;
  • with couriers, installers and other contractors who deliver, install or service an AED for us — for example a prize AED;
  • where required or authorised by law, or where it's needed to protect someone's health or safety.

8. Storage outside Australia

Our database and our email service are provided by Amazon Web Services in the United States (the US West — Oregon region). This means personal information collected through Keep The Beat Going is stored and processed in the United States. We take reasonable steps to make sure our service providers protect it to the standard the Australian Privacy Principles require.

9. Cookies and browser storage

Keep The Beat Going doesn't use cookies, advertising or analytics trackers. It does use your browser's own storage to remember things on your device:

  • the player signed in on this device (school code, nickname, player code and sign-in token);
  • game settings (sound, music, chosen character, run mode, full screen);
  • progress (best score, CPR checks passed, the stage you can continue from, levels you've rated) and level-designer drafts;
  • for teachers, the key that lets you update your school's registration from this browser — and, if our servers can't be reached when you register, your registration details until they can.

Anyone using the same device and browser can see what's stored there. Signing out removes the player from that device, and you can clear this storage at any time in your browser's settings.

Videos. Some pages show a video — our music video, hosted on YouTube, and our explainer videos, hosted on Wistia. Nothing is loaded from YouTube or Wistia until you press play. When you do, the video plays from that service, which receives your IP address and browser details and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and turn off Wistia's viewer tracking.

10. Keeping information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, change or disclosure. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), randomly generated school codes, player codes and sign-in tokens, signed tokens for every saved run, limits on how often things can be tried, and administration tools that only authorised Aero Healthcare staff can use.

School codes and player codes work like passwords — please keep them within your school. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we'll notify the people affected and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

11. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, then delete or de-identify it:

  • Detailed gameplay records (the action and timing records used to replay runs): up to 180 days — except each school's best run in each monthly round, which we keep as evidence for the competition for the length of the campaign plus 12 months.
  • Anti-cheat review records: up to 90 days.
  • School registrations, player records, heroes, scores and leaderboards: for the length of the Keep The Beat Going campaign and 12 months afterwards.
  • AED registrations and nominations: indefinitely. Registrations form Aero Healthcare's register of its AEDs, which lets us contact owners about their AED — for example a product safety notice or a recall.
  • Event competition entries (names, companies, emails and rounds): 12 months after the event, then deleted — except the winner's details, which we keep with the record of the prize for 7 years.
  • Requests for a school's code: 16 months.
  • Web server logs: 16 months.
  • Backups: 16 months.

You can ask us to delete your information sooner — see section 12.

12. Seeing, correcting and deleting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing keepthebeat@aerohealthcare.com. Parents and guardians can ask on behalf of their child, and teachers on behalf of their school.

To find the right records — and to make sure we only give information to the right person — we may ask for the school code, the player's nickname or player code, or (for an AED registration) the serial number and the email address used. We'll respond within 30 days and there's no charge. In the limited cases where the law lets us refuse a request, we'll tell you why.

Players can also delete their own hero and their own player-made levels in the game, and anyone can clear what's stored in their browser.

13. Questions and complaints

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version on this page with a new "last updated" date and, if the changes are significant, let registered schools know.
